Get your bike, get ready and get naked. This Saturday the much-anticipated
World Naked Bike Ride will be taking place in Portland for the 10th consecutive year.
This year cyclists will be meeting at Colonel Summers Park at 8pm on June 27th. The ride will then depart at 9pm sharp. The route will be around 7 miles long, but the destination will not be disclosed before the ride. Although this is a free event, a donation of $5 to $10 is suggested.
Even though riding around Portland while baring it all sounds like a fun way to cool down after a hot day, this bike ride is actually a lighthearted protest against our society’s dependence on fossil fuels. This ride also highlights the vulnerability that cyclists, and other less protected users of the road, face every day.
As of now, it is expected that around 12,000 people will be in attendance.
If you plan to attend make sure you bring plenty of water, a helmet and an extra set of clothes because once the bike ride concludes 10 Barrel Brewing PDX will be hosting an after party. There will be food carts, DJs, Dancing and $3 beers. What else could you ask for?
Colonel Summers Park is located at SE 17th Ave & SE Taylor Street in Portland. Riders will meet at 8pm and the ride will depart at 9pm. The after party will be at 2410 N. Mississippi Avenue in North Portland after the bike ride.
