A pair of Portland eateries have reason to celebrate today, as they were named among the top 100 restaurants in the country by Yelp.
The consumer review site released it’s “Top 100 Places to Eat in the US” for 2016 on Wednesday. Screen Door finished in the top half of the list, coming in at 33, while The Waffle Window was ranked 93rd on Yelp’s list.
Screen Door provides some down-home southern cooking right here in PDX. Their fried chicken and bacon receive rave reviews on Yelp.
“This place is worth getting up early for,” user Erika O. said in a five-star review. “My boyfriend's chicken and waffles were out of this world. If you love Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles this is another step up from that. To be honest I didn't even know it could get better. But it really does!”
The Waffle Window, located at 3610 SE Hawthorne Blvd., has some of the breakfast in town.
“Been going for years, A must stop when driving through Portland even if in a rush,” raved Seth. W. in a five-star review. “The savory waffles are amazing as are the seasonal ones. Honestly I have not had a waffle there I didn't like.”
How the Rankings Were Made
To determine Yelp’s Best Places to Eat in 2016, researchers analyzed which places were the all-time most popular an reviewed on Yelp. Restaurants were judged based on rankings that looked at the ratings and number of reviews on the site.
“Yelp’s list of Top 100 Places to Eat in the US for 2016 honors businesses that rank so highly in the Yelp community’s opinion that they have earned the status of ‘must try within this lifetime,’” Yelp said. “From fancy to casual, long time favorite to new up-and-comer, barbecue to udon, this list runs the gamut of gastronomical experiences. And that’s the way we like it; a list as quirky and interesting and unique as the Yelp Community itself. Sometimes you want a white tablecloth experience, and sometimes a sandwich on the run hits the spot.”
