Fit for Life: Where Are YOU Today?

Matt Espeut, GoLocalPDX Health +Lifestyle Contributor

Last week I heard a quote from an old Sopranos episode that resonated with me.

He was sitting at dinner with Pauly, another guy, and a couple of young females with a miserable look on his face due to the chatter around the table.

When someone asked what was wrong, he replied “Remember when” is the lowest form of conversation.

Then got up and walked away.

Think about that.

How much time and effort do you exert remembering when:

You were 30lbs lighter

Had normal cholesterol, blood sugar, and triglycerides

Could run a complete mile, or a 40-yard dash in under 5 seconds

Had a thriving business

Times were more fun back then

When I had ……….

Why?

What’s so great about the past, and what is preventing you from having and doing what you did then?

Why not be fit and healthy?

Why has your health gone to shit?

Why isn’t your business doing well now?

Why does your life suck so badly that you need to “remember when” to crack a smile?

Don’t get me wrong, when I see old friends, it’s fun to reminisce, however I feel as though my best years are still ahead of me and I still have something left in my 50-year-old tank.

I had fun when I was younger, yet I still continue to live a healthy and vital life. I can’t bench 400 lbs. anymore, but who cares?

I have a deep past, and lived on the edge a bit, but that’s not where I want to be now. I only think about where I want to be in the future.

Where are YOU today? Are you operating at your full potential?

Why not?

What is holding you back?

The answer is in the mirror, so take a long look and let it sink in.

Whatever your problem is, it’s your fault.

And whatever excuses you are telling yourself are lies.

We all have choices and options so it’s up to you to take responsibility for the choices you have made and your daily actions.

The good news is, it doesn’t need to stay that way, and there are things you can do today to make some changes for the better.

The bad news is, it won’t happen overnight, and you need to take steps everyday towards improvement.

Everyday. Not every other day but every day.

If you cared about your health, you can start paying better attention to what you eat and exercise some discipline.

If you wanted to have more energy, muscle mass, and a smaller waist size, you would start making the time to work out every day.

If you are not making enough money, you could work harder, smarter, and more efficiently to make ends meet.

I know what you are thinking: Yea he says all this, but it’s not that easy.

CORRECT.

It won’t be easy, but taking the easy way is what got you in this position in the first place.

Now it’s time to go to work.

Life can be overwhelming, and sometimes it’s impossible to conquer the things we need to be doing alone, so here’s some advice to get yourself back on track and become the version of yourself that you once remembered.

Start by joining Providence Fit Body Boot Camp. With our coaching and accountability program, we will help you take all the guesswork out of nutrition and exercise. Our coaches are with you every step of your journey, and we will help you achieve results faster and more efficiently than any other program on the market today.

Get to bed on time. This has a domino effect on your life. When you get enough sleep, you wake with more energy, and more energy equates to higher performance. When you perform at a higher level, you become more productive, and more production will eventually lead to better health, wellness, and believe it or not more income.

Stay hydrated. This seems insignificant, however hydration, like sleep will also influence your performance throughout the day.

We are comprised of cells and muscle, and both require proper hydration to function at the highest level, and in order to improve at all facets of life, you need to become a high performer.

Listen folks, it’s never over.

As long as you can get out of bed, put both feet on the floor and take a breath, you can become successful at anything you put your mind to and see willing to work for.

Don’t go through life wishing you were.

Take action today and the next time you say remember when, you will be saying “I remember when I was off my game, and I never want to go back there again”.
