Portland Police Arrest Washington Residents in Connection With 2015 Death of Kyle Polk

Javier Fernando Hernandez, 20 of Washington and Cynthia Anne Scholer, 46, of Washington were arrested in connection with 2015 death of 21-year-old Kyle Polk. 

The Arrests 

On Tuesday August 23, 2016, 20-year-old Javier Fernando Hernandez of Vancouver, Washington, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Murder, Attempted aggravated murder, attempted murder, and unlawful use of a weapon (two counts). Hernandez will be arraigned on Wednesday. He was arrested by the US Marshals Oregon Fugitive Task Force in Troutdale, Oregon. 

On Friday August 19, 46-year-old Cynthia Anne Scholer of Vancouver, Washington, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail on charges of hindering prosecution (six counts) and tampering with physical evidence. Scholer was released on bail and will be arraigned in Multnomah County Court on Thursday. 

The Investigation

This investigation began on December 16, 2015, at 2:33 p.m., when East Precinct officers responded to the report of a shooting at Southeast 112th Avenue and Division Street. 

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located Kyle Polk suffering from traumatic injuries. Lifesaving efforts were not successful and Polk died at the scene. 

Homicide detectives followed leads in the case that led to a Multnomah County Grand Jury to indict Hernandez and Scholer in connection with Polk's murder.
