Two 16-year-olds from Portland were killed in an accident on I-5 near Tualatin on Friday morning around 1:50 a.m.

Neither of the kids, a boy and a girl, were wearing seat belts and speed is being considered a factor for the crash.

Next of kin has been completed but names are being withheld because of their age.

The Incident

On November 18,  at approximately 1:50 a.m. Oregon State Police (OSP) Troopers and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on I-5 just (northbound) south of milepost 289.

The preliminary investigation revealed a white 1996 Volvo 740 (passenger car) was traveling northbound in the center lane behind a red 2003 Volvo semi-tractor. The 16 year old male driver of the Volvo attempted to the pass the semi-tractor. The driver of the semi was identified as Vitaly Ivanov, 45, from Renton, Washington. The Volvo car collided into the rear of the commercial vehicle. The impact caused the Volvo to spin out of control and collide, again, with the semi-tractor.

The male driver and the juvenile female passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Ivanov was not injured.
